ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an absolutely Beautiful and Very Rare Set of 2 Antique Photochrom Prints of Niagara Falls by the world famous American Photographer ‘William Henry Jackson’ (American, 1843-1942), published by the Detroit Publishing Co. We have another William Henry Jackson Large Photochrom listed so please take a look! The first Print is “Prospect Point” which features a spectacular view of the Falls with the ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat in the background, and ‘59038 Copr. Detroit Publishing Co.’, as appears printed lower right corner in the image area. The second Print is of “Goat Island” which also features a dramatic view of the Falls, and ‘59039 Copr. Detroit Publishing Co.’, as appears printed lower right in the image area. The digital file for “Prospect Point” at the Library of Congress Photographs & Prints Division, Washington, D.C. website is http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/cph.3g02530, and the digital file for “Goat Island” is http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/det.4a31584. Both original negatives are in the State Historical Society of Colorado. These Prints are Extremely Rare especially in this size and each one is currently selling for as high as $1250.00 EACH online at the following links (http://www.photochrom.com/MAM/59038.html & http://www.photochrom.com/MAM/59039.html), and these will start well below current market value, so don’t miss this opportunity to add to your William Henry Jackson, Detroit Publishing or Niagara Falls Photographic Collection, and happy bidding!!! Both Prints are drymounted and matted to prevent damage and are in a nice off-white archival mat. The “Prospect Point” Photochrom is circa 1900 and the “Goat Island is circa 1912 according to the L.O.C. website, but I have a feeling they were shot at the same time (circa late 1890’s-Turn-of-the-Century), even though the D.P.C. firm was known as the Detroit Photographic Co. until 1905 when it then became the Detroit Publishing Company (as appears on each print) but these images may have been from some of the already-shot negatives that Jackson brought with him when he joined the firm in 1897, of which he added over 10,000 negatives to the bulk of their inventory, and also because he became the plant manager in 1903, leaving him with less time to travel and take photographs and didn’t produce much himself after that point. The Photochroms are both in Excellent Rare+ condition with No Color Fade. These Photochroms have been in a drawer amongst other prints since they were purchased by Walter Meibohm and they haven’t seen the light of day in all this time-they’re as beautiful as the day they were printed. The size of each matted is 25.5 x 21.5, visible opening size of each is 20 x 16.5, size of each Photochrom is 21 x 17. No real damage at all on these wonderful pieces-No Creasing, No Tears, and No Foxing. Very minimal light surface scuffing and/or light surface scratches here & there in the image area on each and are not that noticeable at all. This Gorgeous and Very Rare Set of 2 Antique William Henry Jackson Photochrom Prints of Niagara Falls Have Never Been Framed. About the Artist: William Henry Jackson was probably the most world renowned American landscape photographers of the late 1800’s on through the early 20th Century. His career in photography started in 1858 as a photo retouching artist, and then expanded to photographing the great Territories of the United States. He was the official photographer of the Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden’s, United States Geological Survey of the Territories. He worked in Colorado, traveled to Asia and the Pacific for the World Transportation Commission photographing 24 different countries, worked for 27 years for the Detroit Photographic Company-later becoming the Detroit Publishing Company, and worked through his retirement years 1924-1942 until his death. Jackson’s images made him famous and his legacy survives in collections across the United States, namely; the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division, The Edison Institute (Known today as the Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan), and the Colorado Historical Society, along with all of the negatives and prints from the Detroit Publishing Company that Jackson had control over at the time of the company’s liquidation in 1932. A lot of servers in the last year or two, have started using new SPAM filters, and there have been a lot of problems with GOOD email not getting through correctly, and being returned as undeliverable. We have had numerous problems this past year communicating with our eBayers outside of eBay.COLLECTORS & DEALERS: Please DO NOT email us (inside or outside of eBay's email system) with any offers to stop an auction early. At this time we only use an 'Auction Style' Listing and Do Not offer a 'Buy it Now' for any of our current listings (unless it is a client commission piece and offered that way as per the client) and we will not stop an auction early to sell any item(s). It would not be fair to the rest of the eBay Worldwide community if we did that. THE HIGHEST BIDDER GETS IT!!!!!Thank you from the Staff at Meibohm Fine Arts, and GOOD LUCK!!!
