This set was made by Cardinal Flatware in the mid-to-late 1930's and is marked "Cardinal Stainless Steel" on the knives. The forks are marked "Stainless Steel". I have provided a photo from Barbara Mauzy’s book "Bakelite in the Kitchen" which shows that this rare pattern is valued at $150 to $175 per piece, assuming you can find any (see last photo). And that price is for acceptable used condition. This set is NEAR MINT, and shows little to no signs of use. There are only a few very fine scratches on some of the knife blades. The fork tines look practically new. The Bakelite and inlays are in excellent condition showing little to no signs of use. The Bakelite is firmly connected at the metal collars. There are a few naturally occurring swirls in the butterscotch. The forks with the Lady inlay are intentionally a little lighter colored butterscotch than the knives with the Gentleman inlay. The handles have not darkened very much over time and are still a rich and golden yellow Bakelite. The knives measure 9 1/4" long. The forks measure 7 5/8" long. It is almost impossible to find so many pieces of this Scarce Bakelite Silhouettes Silverware at one time! The remarkable Near Mint Condition of this set doubles the value of the find!
