I purchased it new and have been the sole owner. When I took the plane out of the box, I tested the sole for flattness with a Starrett straight edge and found that it was slightly off. So I flattened the sole using very fine sand paper on a precision lapping plate. I used this plane exactly one time for a few minutes: To make test cuts after honing the iron. While making test shavings I hit a knot in the wood and slightly knicked the cutting edge. I left the tool in my shop for a while meaning to re-hone the edge but never got around to it. A few months later I moved the tool to my air conditioned office closet where it has sat unused ever since. I’m offering several Lie-Nielsen tools that have seen little or no use. So please be sure to check out my other items. The iron is made from cryogenically treated A2 steel. This plane includes the improved 1/8 inch thick cap iron. The cherry wood knob and tote are in fine condition. So is the japanning. There are a few areas of mild surface rust that can easily be removed. The original box, packaging and literature are included. Note: The back of the box has has a tear near the center (see picture).
