                     "LS.."LELAND STANFORD"..Letter signed..Dated..March 24, 1886..(ca. 5 3/4"x 9")..Letterhead.."WILLARD'S HOTEL"..Hand written letter..signed by important historical figure!..Leland Stanford was the driving force building the Central Pacific Railroad..the start of the great transcontinental railroad from the west..Stanford's railroad tracks reached from the California coast to the desert of Utah to meet the Union Pacific Railroad at Promontory Point!..Stanford brought his.."Golden Spike"..to be pounded into the last tie and signaled to all America.."It is Done"..The completion of the great transcontinental railroad on May 10th 1869!..Not only was Standford a great president of the Central Pacific Railroad..he served as Governor of California..(1864-66)..during the Civil War and later became a US Senator in 1885!..(letter up for bid is dated Washington D.C.
