Lieutenant General Ira C. EAKER, WORLD WAR TWO AIR COMBAT COMMANDER. A signed and inscribed dramatic studio photo portrait of the general, probably dating to WWII but signed and inscribed after his retirement. Heavy matte paper. Perfect. A-1672 Eaker: (1896-1989). USAS (1917); Military Aviator (1918); piloted one of the aircraft of the Pan-American Good Will Flight, for which he was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross (1927); chief pilot of the Army Air Corps Fokker-designed Atlantic C-2A Question Mark in a record-setting endurance flight at Los Angeles Municipal Airport of 150 hours 40 minutes 15 seconds, more than six days, commanded by MAJ Carl Spaatz with LT Elwood Quesada and R. W. Hooe, for which he recieved a Distinguished Service Cross (1929); with LT B. S. Thompson, two unsuccessful attempts at a flight, California-New York-California-New York-California-Ohio, in a Boeing 95 Boeing Hornet Shuttle (1929); fifth place in the 1931 Thompson Trophy Race flying a Wright Whirlwind-powered Lockheed Altair, a commercial mail plane, at 192.82 mph; commanded a Western Zone route during the period the Army flew the Air Mail (1934); made the first transcontinental blind flight, New York - Los Angeles (1936); Air Corps Tactical School (1936); Army War College (1937); served aboard the Lexington with the USN; flew fighters with the Royal Air Force (1941); established the first AAF HQ in Europe in WWII, United States Army Bomber Command (1942); organized the VIII Bomber Command; CG 8th Air Force (1943); CG Mediterranean Allied Air Forces (12th & 15th AFs plus the British) (1943); personally flew many missions, including the first Italy-Russia shuttle bombing mission (1944); retired 1947; he wrote: This Flying Game with Hap Arnold (1941), Winged Warfare and Army Flyer; retired in 1947 after the formation of the USAF; vice president, Douglas Aircraft (1947-61). (LG., USAF.).   This is part of my personal collection of over 2500 aviation autographs dating from the very earliest days of aviation. The collection includes many, many air mail pilots, record holders, aviation personalities, military/naval aviators from 1914 through Vietnam, etc. I’ll also be including about 1000 autographs from a group my mother and father collected during the late twenties, thirties and just before WWII. All are in excellent condition unless otherwise noted and all are authentic. $5.00 for carefully protected and packaged First Class Mail. I mail autographs and photographs very well protected from the weather and mishandling in padded envelopes with heavy cardboard for $5.00 for any number of autographs or photos. To assure a valid USPS receipt Canadian and European photos and autographs are mailed by International Priority Mail in Flat Rate envelopes protected from bending and weather. P&H to Canada is $12.00 for any number of photographs and/or autographs and $14.00 to most Eurpoean destinations.
