Description
This is a Very Rare ANTIQUE LOCOMOTIVE BRASS TRAIN 4 CHIME STEAM WHISTLE!   I have never seen one like this.  It is similar to the Casey Jones tube type whistle.  The valve has a 2 inch standard threaded male inlet.  It weighs around 24 pounds.  It has the rare vertical style valve, commonly called the locomotive style valve.  The overall height from the bottom of the valve to the top of the longest tube is 21 inches.  The tubes are, from the base of the bowl to the bottom of the top cap, as follows (approximately):  6 1/2, 8 1/2, 10 1/2, and 12 1/2 inches long.  These measurements are within 1/4 inches either way, give or take.  Each of the tubes are 1 1/2 inches in diameter.  The only markings I see are:  AN or NV 146 with a 24 stamped in the side of the valve.  See the pictures below.  The valve works perfectly, no leaks.   We tried it on steam at 185 pounds of pressure, and with the steam valve barely open, it sounded loud, beautiful, and made a nice railroady chime.  It will overblow or underblow if you don't get the steam valve opened just right.  Once we got it set just right, it blended in well and sounded beautiful!  Of course, it works just as well on air.  This whistle would be great to use on a steam locomotive train, steam traction engine or steam tractor, factory, sawmill boiler, ship or tugboat, etc.  I have no history on this one.  I bought it at an estate auction in Northern Ohio about 5 years ago.  Shipping, handling, and insurance will be a flat $40.00 to any address in the USA.  E-mail me with any questions or comments you have.  I will not accept Paypal in this auction as their fees are too high.  Very low starting bid of only $600, with NO RESERVE!  This one will definitely sell to the highest bidder!  Good luck bidders!
