Description
Skyscraper Cocktail ShakerbyKensington Corporation, PAYou are bidding on a very art deco, highly-collectible aluminum skyscraper cocktail shaker by Kensington Corporation. As the self-proclaimed "Aluminum City," New Kensington once employed thousands of local workers at its Alcoa plants. There, the company manufactured a line of Art Deco-inspired giftware known as "Kensington" ware. Hoping to display the more creative uses of aluminum, Alcoa commissioned some of the best metal artists of the 1930s to design streamlined desk sets, cocktail shakers, platters, tea sets and other decorative pieces. This piece was designed by Lurelle Guild for Kensington Corporation. Graced by streamlined designs and brass accents, Kensington ware immediately gained widespread acclaim, starting with its debut in 1934 and lasting through the 1950s, when a restyled offering favored a more "contemporary," modern look. Those in the know will quickly spot the Kensington stag head mark above a shield bearing a "K." After the first two years of production, the company added the word "Kensington" in script under the shield. This shaker measures an impressive 13-1/2 inches tall x 3-5/8 inches in diameter.I’m a passionate cocktail shaker collector.
