Four suspended neck plates are attached with blue lacing. Red lacquered interior with a cloth liner and replaced lace chincords. (2) “Mempo” (face mask which covers cheeks and chin) made of reddish-brown lacquer with four matching neck plates attached with blue lacing. (3) “Do” (curass). Dark brown lacquered front consists of nine horizontal panels, with two brass rings on chest. The top panel has an applied floral/stylized lion cloth facing, which extends under the arms. The backplate has nine lacquered plates attached to the top shoulder section which has the same cloth covering and “padded shoulders” (embroidered relief red “dots” within hexagons on a soft white field). Matching standup collar. Metal brackets on back to accommodate pennant staff. (4) Shoulder guards. Five lacquered plates with blue lacing and red “dots” on bottom plate. (5) “Kusazuri” (armor tassets). Six arrangements of five lacquer plates each (the bottom sections have a relief tree bark appearance) suspended on blue cord lacing from the base of the chest and backplate. (6) “Kote” (armored sleeves). Cloth with applied chain mail/rectangular sections and a large circular decoration – all arranged in a pattern. Gilt embossed discs bearing a dragon can be seen through the mail. Mail and shaped lacquered panels cover the wrist, thumb and hand – which have relief floral decoration. (7) “Hodo haidate” (thigh armor). Each of two connected blue cloth aprons have four rows of 12 each, subdued gilt on black wood panels. Probably from an earlier set of armor.
