Ivory Boite a Mouche 2 Colors Gold pique Patch Box 1780   Exquisite 18th century ivory pique patch box with original ivory pique brush. Patch boxes are small boxes of usually oval or rectangular shape and made of precious material, and were employed mainly in the 18th century. They were used to hold beauty patches, tiny shapes applied to the face to accentuate the features. Although usually round, the patches were sometimes found in other shapes such as stars and even insects. These little patch boxes are a charming link to an elegant time in history. 1 3/4" x 2 1/2", the solid ivory box is inlaid with rose gold and yellow gold fuschia motif. There is also a heavy rope design border accent with dots in the same two colors of gold. Hairline on one side of lid. Pressing the gold button releases the latch to reveal a mirrored lid and segmented body. The two compartments are separated by an ivory wall, and are lined in red velvet. The original pique mouche brush is nestled in its place. An extraordinary and rare antique.
