Gnomes are nice collectibles especially for the upcoming holiday season. Gnomes and elves are mythical figures often thought of as Santa's helpers. This one is made of  carved stone. This is matte finish vs. shiney. It is hand made. The gnome is hand painted in older german style folk art colors. Gnomes come in different characters. This one appears to be a working gnome or house gnome as he has a shovel in hand. He was probably made to represent one of SANTA'S HELPERS. The gnome has true character features with an impish mouth, raised eyebrows, carved eyes and an extended nose. His hands are sculpted with digits or fingers. He has a belt with buckle around his robe-like clothing. His shoes show at the base of his robe. He holds his left hand to his ear. I presume he has an ache from the sounds of work. The gnome is in pretty good condition for its age. This one is unmarked. He has a little chipping at the underside of his base. He also has a dot of paint wear or tiny chip at the fold of his neck on the right side. This is not easily seen.
