This is one of the few Texas maps that shows Wigefarth County in the lower Panhandle next to Indian Territory. This Texas county was in existence for only a short time.  I have never seen it on any other major Texas County Map. (Reproduction) A Beautiful Map! All The Early Post Civil War Frontier Forts, Trails & Places  in Texas & Indian Territory Warner & Beers maps are known for their great beauty and their accuracy. The national Atlas of the United States that this map was published for was copyrighted in 1872 and this edition was published in 1876. In this transitional period, the railroads had only reached as far west as Dallas & Austin. There are a number of projected but never built fantasy railroads also shown. In addition this map has very good detail as to the existing roads and trails. Shown are the major Indian war trails, the military roads still connecting all the frontier forts and many now-forgotten place names.. This is one of the few major post-Civil War maps that shows the entire state of Texas without chopping off either the Panhandle or the western sections which adds greatly to the visual appeal. In addition, a very large part of Indian Territory and New Mexico is shown in full color and detail. The map features and intricate border coupled with effective but subtle handwash coloring. This is in direct contrast to the crude & garish "checkerboard" look of many of its contemporaries. Along with some of the contemporary S.A. Mitchell maps, his may be one of the most beautiful maps of Texas , and possibly one of the best looking Texas maps ever published.  The sample picture shown is at very low Internet resolution and reduced in size. It does not even begin to show the detail and quality of the actual map.
