Thank you for taking the time to visit. Brief biography of Chuck ObersteinChuck was born in East Los Angeles December 18th, 1938.  He began his career in Europe in his early twenties.  Chuck quickly worked his way to an extremely successful one-man-show in the art gallery at Disneyland.  Not willing to simply emulate other artists (with the possible exception of Rembrandt, his favorite), Chuck developed an illusional style all his own.  It was this delightful method that earned him the respect of art critics everywhere and they often commented as to his "magic touch".  Occasionally, he was even referred to as the "Magician". Known primarily for his clowns, those works have been duplicated on millions of posters, greeting cards, statues, and collector plates.  Late in his career Chuck began using the number ' 442 ' on his works and sometimes the fun can be finding it hidden somewhere in his paintings.  It is also nearly always on the back in a circled abstract heart (" 442 , I love you").  This mysterious number became his moniker simply in remembrance of his favorite-ever automobile, an Oldsmobile 442 .  Also, many of his original pieces have an extremely elevated clear teardrop beneath one eye of his blackfaced sad clowns. Given that Chuck was a vegetarian and a devotee to proper health, it was sadly ironic that he passed away from cancer May 8th, 2002.  He was survived by his wife Judy.  Like the most famous artists in history, Chuck Oberstein has left his stamp on the world and will surely be remembered for as long as people enjoy clowns. Chuck Oberstein's paintings are cherished all over the world in various formats.  While there are thousands of reproductions (and many times copies are extremely difficult to identify), his original pieces are considered to be one of the best investments in contemporary art today.  Thank you again for considering owning a Chuck Oberstein original.
