DEER CREEK ROUGH, TUMBLED MATERIAL Prev Stop Play Next This auction is for TWENTY POUNDS  of Fire Agate from Deer Creek, AZ, a mine well-known for it's gorgeous fire agate.  I have tumbled the material to knock off some of the chalcedony, you can see some colors shining through under the white.  Some people prefer it to be tumbled, and some do not.We have been told by a reliable source that it is from the Van Dusen pit. We were told that the miner had taken this material from the mine in the 70's and planned to work it as he got older. Unfortunaely, he died unexpectedly in his 50's, and now his widow has sold off some of his old stock.  We understand that Deer Creek mine has been worked out completly and is now closed.  .  Fire Agate is not a well-known gem. It has colors that are brighter and sometimes more beautiful than opal. With a hardness of 7 there is a far less risk of cracking, fading or easily scratching these stones.
