FINE ANTIQUE19TH CENTURY PRE-BAN IVORY PAIR OF PRESENTATION CASED RAZORS   Click to Enlarge     Click to Enlarge     Click to Enlarge     Click to Enlarge     Click to Enlarge     Click to Enlarge     Click to Enlarge     Description: THIS IS Guaranteed genuine antique PRE-BAN ANTIQUE IVORY OVER 100 YEARS OLD, CONFORMS WITH EBAY RULES, AND IS EXEMPT FROM ANY REGULATIONS OR RESTRICTIONS! I WILL SHIP THIS ITEM ONLY TO THE USA! Fine Antique, 19th Century pair of Ivory handled straight Razors in the original silk lined, leather covered Marked Presentation case. This minty pair of straight razors are marked "HILL & SON" and "HAYMARKET S.W." in two lines on the ricasso. Goin's Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings lists an Edwin S Hill & Co., Cutlers and Silversmiths at 23 Old Bond st., London, circa 1875-1900, and Hill & Son, No. 4 Haymarket st. S.W. London, circa 1875-1900. Due to the dates, it can be assumed that one company was an offshoot of the other; undoubtedly headed by Edwin Hill's son, as was typical in the cutlery trade at the time. These straight razors were completely hand made; i.e., hand forged, hand ground, hand polished, and hand fitted, using only simple hand tools. The Presentation case is 7" long X 2 3/4" wide X 1" thick, and was also completely made by hand. The top of the case is blue silk embossed in Gold, with a "Crown" (suggesting a Royal Warrant to the Royal family), "Hill & Son", "HAYMARKET", and "S.W." in 4 lines. The bottom of the case is lined with blue velvet. The case has a brass push button clasp for securing the top and bottom. The outside of the case is covered in textured leather. The only hinge for the top/bottom is the leather covering. This hinge is intact but is somewhat fragile due to natural aging. Note: this Ivory is 19th Century, is pre-ban, and is exempt from an regulations or restrictions. The four Ivory scales are 5 3/4" long, and all are in perfect condition, with no damage, chips or cracks, with German silver pins. The blades seem to be extremely wide at the backs; about 1/4" thick, with a 1 3/4" panel that is hand filed near the end where the razor would be held during use. Both 5 3/4" long blades are concave ground and very highly polished with the original crocus of Iron polish. This fine final polish makes the blades appear as if they are chrome plated. One razor is in untouched condition; it is difficult to tell, but it is possible the other may have been hit once with a razor strop when the recipient first sampled the razor. Both blades have spots of natural aged patina that are perfectly normal and expected for a 100+ year old metal blade; but these are not distracting. This set has remained unused and in Mint condition in it's original Presentation case for 106- 131 years, and would be a fine addition to any Razor, Barber, Old West, Folk Art, or Western American collection/display.
