Description
Ferrari 250 GTO Design – Engineering – Technical Development – Race Data – Competition History – Driver Memories – Individual Car Histories 1st edition – OUT-OF-PRINT - published by Bay View Books Quite simply, the best book that has ever been published regarding these greatest of all Ferraris. A record price for one of these beauties was the sale of 250 GTO S/N 3909 to Kato in Japan for $13,837,500. Years of research by the authors have resulted in the most thorough study of the GTO ever printed. The 1st chapter – “Evolution of the 250 GT Series” covers the 250 family tree, starting with the Gioacchino Colombo and Aurelio Lampredi designed V12 engines, then traces the model’s development, both on and off the track. The 2nd chapter – “Design and Development” recounts history from the 250 SWB up to the GTO’s first race at Sebring, 1962. The 3rd chapter – “GTO in Detail” uses words and photographs to reveal everything under the car’s magnificent looking skin. The 4th chapter – “The 250 GTOs Car by Car” portrays each car’s racing and ownership history. Supplementing the text are current and period photographs, and some great historical notes. The 5th chapter – “The 4-Litre Cousins” discusses the three 330 GTOs and the four 330 LMBs with a car-by-car analysis. The 6th chapter – “Portrait of a GTO” is a color section showing various views of the 250 GTO – body, interior (including a highly detailed cutaway view of the whole car) and engine. The 7th chapter – “Racing Around the World” summarizes the event-packed racing years supplemented with historic photos of the cars in battle. There is a Race Record summary listing chassis number, driver(s), registration, and overall/class finishing position. The book concludes with memoirs and impressions from some of the story’s principals in chapters 8 and 9. More than 300 never-before published photos, mainly from the car’s design and development phase and its active 1962 – 1964 period in GT racing at World Championship level are part of this book. This book which captures every aspect of the GTO’s character and achievement, is an irresistible portrait of the ultimate Ferrari legend. 192 page lavishly illustrated hardcover book with dustjacket in excellent (almost new) condition. This is the same title that a rare book dealer has for sale at $322.00 and his edition isn’t in any better condition.
