Description
SOUTH JERSEY SEA GLASS – GLIMPSE THE PAST THROUGH GLASS  This beautiful, hand tooled turquoise bottle lip fragment was found on a Delware River Beach in Southern New Jersey after a storm. I first thought it was a black piece as they are common in this area, but was delighted to see its wonderful turquoise color when I held it up to the sun. This piece is lightly frosted, with all rounded edges and old, smoothed over knicks. Natural weathering and pitting is evident upon close inspection and there are no sharp edges. I took this piece to the North American Sea Glass Festival in Delaware and one of their experts described it as possibly originating in the late 1700's from the British Islands.  A great addition to any seaglass or bottle collection! (Nickle is for sizing only and not included) Sea glass shards are remnants of man’s past recycled and made beautiful by nature.  Discarded or lost by our ancestors, glass from bottles, tableware, vases, windows and many other items found its way into abrasive waters that, over time, created unique shapes and a frosted patina.  Sea glass can be used to create beautiful jewelry or decorative objects, but the appeal for many is the knowledge of the history behind the glass.  Is the black sea glass shard that we find or buy today the remnant of a gin bottle tossed away by an early Dutch settler? Who was the child who lost that blue cats eye marble?  What were the thoughts of the Victorian woman who canned fruit in the light aqua jar that is now a frosted fragment perfect for mosaics?  Such is the allure of sea glass. Cradled within three bodies of water, the Atlantic Ocean, the Delaware Bay and the Delaware River, Southern New Jersey boasts an incredible  history which includes centuries of international sea traffic and trading dating back to the early 1600’s, New World and Revolutionary  War fort settlements, glass and bottle making industries and, of course, coastal recreation. As a South Jersey native, I have spent much of my life on the beaches from which I gather the sea shards I offer for sale.  Only the mysterious persons of our past and the timeless tumbling of our local waters created these items.  All sea glass shards are presented for sale as they were found on the beach, with the exception of being cleaned with a mild detergent. Craft or jewelry items using sea glass shards will specify all changes made to the original piece. Whenever possible, I will provide you with a possible origin and date for each piece presented.  Please enjoy the auction and your glimpse of the past through glass.  PAYMENT I accept PayPal, or cashier’s checks and money orders.  Payment must be received by the seller within 7 days for the sale to be finalized. SHIPPING Items are shipped First Class Mail within 24 hours of payment clearance through sellers account (Sunday excluded).  All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.   Seller is not responsible for loss or damage of packages.  No International Bidders please!   SATISFACTION/RETURN POLICY I strive to present all items as accurately as possible. If you have any questions, please email me prior to bidding.  If you are not 100% happy with your purchase, please email me and I will be happy to help you or refund your money provided the item is returned in its original condition within 7 days.  Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
