Description An opportunity to acquire a rare lid in excellent condition. C.1852 " The funeral of the late Duke of Wellington" Number 163 in the Abe Ball book.I believed this to be the genuine early TJ & J Meyer lid and not a later Kirkhams copy. However it recently sold on ebay for nearly £400.00 and the buyer thought it to be a 19th Century early Kirkhams copy. As a result of which I was quite happy to refund his money. Kirkhams took over Meyers C. 1855. This lid is 5inches ( 125mm ) in diameter and is in super condition save for some light crazing to the back of the lid. In this instance this is a good sign because the later Kirkham lids did not craze. The copies also had two holes for hanging which are obviously not in the Meyer original lid.This lid is lightly potted and again the copies were heavy. I am now selling this as a 19th Century lid.
