He painted the characters in the traditional way but he also developed graphical energetic and  dynamic style filled with color because he captured the spirit and moods of these characters in his artwork. I emailed Mr. Willardson and this is what he said about the two plates I have up for auction,  "... only let 75 into the public. Destroying any additional plates.  I emailed Mr. Willardson back about why only 75 plates were actually issued instead of the original 250 and/or 500 pieces and he said Disney only wanted to buy 75 of each plate at a time so that was what was first produced, after that he stated, "I found the process as overwhelming while Disney was grinding the wholesale dollars so low that there wasn't a profit margin. So when the 75 of each of 5 editions sold out quickly, I decided it wasn't worth my time to continue. Also this is why they are extremely rare!"  This year a new book will be out he said called "Disney Art by David Willardson." After this book is released his artwork will soar in price.
