Description
SABER-TOOTHED CAT SKULL Dinictus squalidens Paleogene, Oligocene epoch White River Badlands, Wyoming, USA The long-legged dinictus with its razor-sharp sabers was the smallest and one of the earliest of five different species of prehistoric quasi-felines that roamed North America during the Upper Paleogene period, first appearing in the fossil record 38 to 34 million years ago. They stood approximately 2 feet tall, were probably cheetah-like in habits and diet, and were solitary predators hunting an abundant food supply of grazing ungulates. Using the highly-developed saber teeth, they would most likely sever the blood supply in the neck of their prey in their initial attack. This skull, with some restoration, measures 7 inches long by 6 inches high on a metal armature and wood display base. Was at the time the largest know skull found back in the 80s.It was found on the Albert Ming Ranch. You will not find another for sale as they are ultra rare.Email with all questions or comments. On Nov-16-08 at 21:54:04 PST, seller added the following information:THE SABERS ARE 100% INTACK RIGHT DOWN TO THE ROOTS...ALSO THERE IS IN MY OPINION 30 % RESTORATION TO THE PIECE MOSTLY IN THE LOWER JAW .THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND I AM NOT AN EXPERT IS THIS FIELD.
