Description
Centennial Inlaid Marquetry Table Circa 1876. True to the Renaissance Revival style, this center table with inlaid head of George Washington flanked with dates "1776" and "1876" was made for display at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Many of the foremost Revival furniture makers exhibited their accomplishments at this event. The table's Renaissance style is found in its turned and fluted legs, carved finials, and "cookie cutter" corners. Handsomely decorated to the style by black and gold incising and marquetry inlay, with original finish, this table is exquisite. Very few have found their way to the auction block. We offer here a true example of Renaissance Revival furniture made for this very special celebration of our nation's birth. The top of the table is approximately 45" x 27" and the overall height is 28".
