Description
Hello one and all, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PYIw9WXh2o Yes, you are correct! This is one of the VERY Rare Carnival Countdowns made by Nick Ruggiero of Collector's Workshop. I called Nick last week and he told me he only made five of these. This one is extra special for a number of reasons. Although the original routine called for a borrowed watch to be placed on a tray slowly decsending into a "vat" of acid, I adapted the routine to feature a parakeet to replace the use of the watch. The prop was featured in my Acme Wonder Show (see video teaser link above). As mentioned, Nick Ruggiero and I adapted the prop to facilitate using a parakeet(s) instead of a borrowed watch. As you’ll see in the video the birdie winds up on my handcuff unharmed. It calls for two identical birds should you decide to perform that routine. Of course you can use the prop as it was meant to be experienced originally. You will see we designed and built a side table matching the design of the main striker prop. As the tub of “acid” is being placed on the side table by the performer, the little birdie #2 comes out from a trap door at the back of the shelf. There is a very clever spring loaded door that retracts into the shelf and a little swing arm gentle guides the birdie onto the handcuff. This mechanism worked 100% of the time. The little birdies are very easily trained for this action. The first birdie is merely switched for the dummy bird and cage (THAT GETS SMASHED) behind the main striker unit. The stage switch is very natural as the performer is placing the vat of “acid” on the prop. As the bird and cage descend, and the handle on the switch breaks off, the “acid” is removed, the cage comes to rest, all seems well and then, Boom, the bell drops and the cage collapses, feathers matching the birdie are shot into the air via a CO2 cartridge charge that is detonated. The bell actually is designed to fall away from the tower, as though it were really falling. The other units just have the bell sliding down, very unnatural. As the feathers float to the ground the audience’s attention is drawn to the performer showing the birdie resting comfortably in the bottom of the handcuff. You get the idea. All the being said, you can always perform the watch, or any other device for that matter. The additional artwork (yellow signs) can be attached or not, as you desire. The prop is in absolute 150% perfect working order. It never once failed me in any way. I spent just under $10,000 with Nick working on this baby. I performed it only a handful of times. As much as I don’t want to part with this piece ever. I must sell it to with the road cases (3), all of the required props, and the life time performance rights to the Birdie Smashing routine, plus shipping and insurance.
