This exceptional 8-by-10-inch vintage* male nude beefcake photograph by photographer Don WHITMAN, features popular rugged model Billy Joe CARR in an outdoor shot. Dating from the late 1950s, the reverse is stamped "Western Photography Guild", and numbered "49-7". The address stamp on the reverse is from the single-digit-zip-code era. Whitman referred to the 21-year-old rugged, masculine Coast Guard cutter Carr as "Hercules relaxed": At at 5'7.5" and 165 pounds, Billy Joe is the epitome of gracefully Herculean development. He is an amazing combination of advanced muscularity, separation, definition and withal flowing lines. He has a thick head of chestnut hair inclined to bleach in the summer and hazel eyes. His smile is frequent, infectious and guileless. For all of his physical attributes, he is surprisingly modest and still amazed at the attention his physique has received since his return from the service. His measurements are: chest normal 44", chest expanded 47", neck 16", biceps 17", forearm 13.5", wrist 6.5", waist 28", thigh 23", calf 15.5" and ankle 11". Whitman's Western Photography Guild images are some of the most photographically beautiful and collectible nude male images of the mid-20th Century. The deep, clear sky of the American West played as much of a starring role in Don Whitman's photographs as did his male models. One could almost hear the music of Aaron Copland swelling in the background as the hunky giants wrestled and danced along the ridges of the Rockies.
