Description
This Oriental Rug is: 6' Long 3' Wide. From my memory of counting the the knots on the back which I am not an expert. They were over 60. I could be totally incorrect but if I am it would have to be more than 60, not less. The pile is very thick and there is no apparent wear spots at all. Tan and blue. The blue is a rich color. Some of the photos make it darker looking than in the real.On the back of the rug is a rusty stapled cloth that shows: EASTERN -9713 I hate to report this but from my long life knowledge, this rug has never been cleaned which I feel may be good to have kept down the chance of being ruined by the wrong cleaners. The Story: My 85 year old mother who lived with us before she passed in June casually told me as I was vacuming the rug, that it was $1,600.00 when it was brand new. Here is what I know: This rug has been in my life for 61 years today I know it is over 61 years old. My father was over seas while being in the Army Air Corp (Before it changed to Air Force on September 18, 1947) He traveled with President Truman because my father was the first official Carpenter for Truman. I am almost near certain that Daddy is the one that gave Mom this rug in the 40's.However, my grandparents were born in the 1800's and there is also that possibility that this rug was passed to Mom from them. Also can be seen here: http://home.att.net/~sheryl2/ORIENTAL-RUG/Oriental-Rug-9713.htm APPRAISERS REPORT: A belated Happy Birthday, I have you by 3 months. Your Chinese runner is not quite deco period, most likely from the early '40's. The rug market has suffered severely over the past 10 years with new carpets being imported by literally the boat load. The runner would retail between $600 and $1000. Thom Thom PattieChief Worthologist
