Trubee Davison (Offered for sale here is the official photo album presented to him by Rickenbacker of the MOH presentation) Major General James Edmond Fechet - Chief of the Air Corps Eddie Rickenbacker We are proud to offer a Medal of Honor document of immense historical importance. Eddie Rickenbacker's Medal of Honor Presentation photo album to his close friend F. Trubee Davison. Davison, as Assistant Secretary of War for Aeronautics, officiated Rickenbacker's MOH ceremony. His central role is clearly explained in the text of the album: "Accompanied by the Hon. F. Trubee Davison, Assistant Secretary of War for Aeronautics, President Hoover entered the stand, where Col. Rickenbacker and General James E. Fechet, Chief of the Air Corps, were presented to him and Mrs. Hoover..." A vintage 1930 photo album with six large 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 photos of Rickenbacker wearing the just awarded MOH. Also includes an 8 page mimeographed official account of the day the Medal of Honor was awarded to Rickenbacker.  Rich in both photographic and documentary detail of November 6, 1930. The day  America's Ace of Aces belatedly received his nations highest award. Later Davison opened the ceremony: "The President of the United States," announced Secretary Davison, in opening the ceremonies, "in the name of Congress will award the Congressional Medal of Honor to Colonel Rickenbacker. General Fechet will read the citation...." Whereupon General Fechet read the citation as follows: "Edward V. Rickenbacker, Colonel, Specialist Reserve, then first lieutenant, 94th Aero Squadron, Air Service, American Expeditionary Forces. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action against the enemy near Billy, France, September 25, 1918. While on voluntary patrol over the lines, Lieut. Rickenbacker attacked 7 enemy planes (5 type Fokker, protecting 2 type Halberstadt). Disregarding the odds against him, he dived on them and shot down one of the Fokkers out of control. He then attacked one of the Halberstadts and sent it down also. Residence at appointment: 1334 East Livingston Avenue. Columbus, O." In bestowing upon this intrepid war bird the highest decoration that the country can give, the President, in putting the ribbon over Rickenbacker's head stated: "Captain Rickenbacker, in the name of the Congress of the United States, I take great pleasure in awarding you the Congressional Medal of Honor, our country's highest decoration for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action with the enemy...you were achieving victories which made you the universally recognized Aces of Aces of the American forces...." Then, speaking to those gathered, Rickebacker humbly thanked his fellow veterans: "Visibly moved as the decoration was pinned on him, Colonel Rickenbacker turned to the microphone on the stand, and in a voice trembling with emotion replied to the brief address by of the Army's present Commander in Chief: "Mr. President," he said "I should be ungrateful if I failed to recognize this great honor as a tribute to my comrades in arms, soldiers and sailors, living and dead. In peace and in war they have contributed their fair share. They have perpetuated the traditions and high ideals of the United States in the Air as they have on Land and Sea."
