Firstly, I am not an expert on pipes terminology so my term might be incorrect. The tube (the item that you use to draw on the pipe) you can see in my images below is not original to the pipe. This has been added just for photographic purposes. Just needed to get that out of the way before we go any further. This is one of the most interesting and beautiful objects that I have found in recent years. English hallmarked (London 1839) with a Royal Crown and initials AE or AF. Also what appears to be a military number 142. I am informed by the National Army Museum that the Gentleman and uniform depicted is that of an Officer of the Royal Lancers. I have not researched the obvious possibilities and this would make a wonderful and potentially very financially rewarding project for its new owner. The pipe has no noteworthy damage. One or two little areas that are worn but certainly nothing worthy of a mention or that would raise any concern. The gold areas are virtually mint and are quite stunning. This item has HUGE potential and is one of the nicest things I've seen in a very long time indeed. Size is approximately 4.5" high x 4" long (not including the tube of course) and is absolutely wonderful to hold. Please note the carefully hand carved detail including the Officer, his faithful dog and horse with chapka headdress and plastron on breast. the Goldsmith work is a sight to behold and one can only imagine what this would have cost, and how very special its original owner must have been...
